Why Jewellery Chains Keep Breaking in the Same Place

Repeated chain failure can indicate wider wear rather than a single bad joint.

If a chain breaks once after an isolated incident, a local repair may be appropriate. If it repeatedly fails in the same region, the surrounding links deserve closer attention.

Look beyond the break

Fine links can stretch and wear against one another. Repairing one failed link without considering adjacent thinning may simply move the next failure a few millimetres along the chain.

Clasp and fittings matter too

The clasp, jump rings and pendant fittings should also be checked because they form part of the same load path.
